CAMRA Gwynedd â Mon Branch Meeting At Tafarn Pencei Corn Hill, Porthmadog 26th November 2025 at 7pm

Clive welcomed everyone to the meeting.
Officers reports: Chair - Clive reported that Nico, Dafydd and himself attended the Wales Regional meeting in Conwy on 1st November. It was agreed that Branch Boundaries would mirror the 22 local authority boundaries. That means there would be no changes for us. There was a discussion as to whether Zoom meetings should take the place of face to face meetings to reduce costs. It was unanimously agreed that face to face meetings should continue.
The Great Wales Drinks Festival will take place in The Depot, Cardiff, from 9th -11th July 2026. It is being sponsored by the Welsh Government, SIBA, CAMRA and others. Big breweries will have their own stands. CAMRA will promote small independent breweries. It will be open to the public. The next regional meeting will be at The Coracle Tavern, Carmarthen on 31st January 2026. The Cider Pub of the Year has been awarded to The Blackfriars Tavern, Great Yarmouth.
It was agreed that Slaters Arms, Corris, would be transferred to our Branch to align with the boundaries.
Secretary– Nico reported that at the Regional meeting he raised the issue of Welsh membership forms. Chris Charters reported that he had been discussing it with the NEC (National Executive Committee) and that due to financial constraints Welsh membership forms will not be printed. In his role as Regional Secretary Nico is going to draft a letter to the NEC saying that this is unacceptable.
Treasurer–Don has completed end of year account forms and sent them to the CAMRA finance team. HQ have accepted them.
Pubs Officer– Cemlyn is now Pubs Data Officer. Any significant changes to pubs in our area should be reported to Cemlyn.
Social Secretary - Events page updated. Comms messages sent as requested.
Membership Secretary - Dafydd reported that Branch membership is down by two.
Vice Chair - Julie urged members to respond to an email from Ash Corbett Collins that was sent out on 15th November. We are being asked to contact our MS’s to ask the Welsh Government to keep the 40% discount that pubs and breweries currently get on business rates beyond April 2026. There is a template available to email members of the Senedd.
Other Agenda Items. Brewery of the Year - No further nominations had been received since the last meeting. Members voted and Bragdy Lleu, Penygroes was declared the winner. A date to be organised for the presentation. Pub of the Year - Our Pub of the Year needs to be determined by 8th March 2026. Nominations for Pub of the Year needed before the meeting on 17th January 2026. Good Beer Guide 2027 - Our allocations for GBG 2027 need to be finalised by March 2026. We have 27 allocations. We discussed current submissions and possible inclusions. A Comms to be sent out to all members requesting nominations of pubs for consideration by 12th December. Nominations will be finalised at our next meeting on 13th December.
Any other business Barry reported that Tafarn Ty Gwyn at Llanfair PG had closed but seeking new tenants. Don reported that he had been to see Janet at Myrddins. She confirmed that the pub is up for sale but they will continue to operate until a sale is made.
